PRACTITIONERS' TRACK
Objective
Practitioners' Track will provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences about the practical and strategic as well as socio-cultural aspects of organic food and agriculture. It will bring together more than 70 "practitioners", who share the vision of a worldwide adoption of ecologically, socially and economically sound systems based on the principles of organic agriculture.
The Practitioners' Track will enrich the congress with presentations and discussions about organic methods, strategies, projects and initiatives from around the world. It aims to broaden the horizons of congress participants by providing opportunities to:
- share information, lessons-learned, achievements and challenges;
- discuss creative solutions to real-world problems;
- gain inspiration and knowledge of best practices;
- explore future collaboration.
Format
The topics will be explored thorough 24 sessions; each session will include 3 presentations and a panel discussion with 3 speakers and one moderator. TR/EN translation will be available for some presentations.
Sessions
The sessions of the Practitioners' Track will focus on the following three issues:
-
Building organic bridges between traditional systems and the future
Traditional production methods are under threat due to the demands of mass food production systems. How can we link traditional knowledge to the future?
Subtopics: Heirloom seeds; Seed-exchange networks; Traditional knowledge and practices; Documentation of traditional knowledge; Traditional recipes and food preservation; Food and energy self-sufficiency; Edible wild plants; Traditional medicine; Traditional farming and landuse (e.g. agro-pastoralism); Local and regional food systems.
-
Building organic bridges between stakeholders
In order to achieve ecologically and economically viable systems with the least amount of waste possible, stakeholders need to work together in harmony and share a common goal.
Subtopics: Farmers to Consumers (PGS, box schemes, e-marketing, market places); Rural to urban; Tourist to farmer (farm visits, Agro-eco tourism); Wildlife to farmer; State bodies, investors, companies, NGOs, scientific bodies; Scientists to producers; NGOs specialising in food and the environment; Urban agriculture to communities.
-
Building organic bridges between strategies
Even when the stakeholders share a common goal there are many different ways to achieve this goal, differing from culture to culture, from geography to geography, etc. Building organic bridges between these systems is about being open to different strategies. Differences in strategies make us stronger as diversity is always more resilient than monoculture.
Subtopics: Biodiversity conservation; Fair trade; Agro-ecology; Permaculture; Cradle to cradle strategies; Climate change adaptation; Consumer choice; Farming trends; Standards and Labelling; how to build organic institutions; Sustainability and partnership.
